Archipelago

Archipelago is a series of mixed-media textured paintings representing small islands out in the deep ocean.

The paintings show birds-eye views of islands, with the dark water of the ocean becoming turquoise and then white as the waves wash up around the shores.

I created these paintings using texture paste and sand gel added to the acrylic paint in order to build up the texture of the islands. The paintings are mounted and framed, but without glass, to allow the texture of the works to be seen clearly.

Archipelago I

Abstract mixed-media painting. Down the centre is above of the painting is a long curved island painted in sandy colours with texture paste and sand gel mixed into the paint to add increased texture to the island. There is also a small island to the top right of the painting. There is white paint around the edges of the island showing foamy waves crashing up onto the shore lines. There is then turquoise paint blending into deeper blue in the background to to depict the deep ocean water.
